History
125 years of innovation: Where German precision meets architectural imagination, Koemmerling transforms boundaries from limitations to possibilities

Founded in 1897 in Pirmasens, Germany, Koemmerling began as a small adhesives manufacturing company established by Karl Kömmerling. What started as a modest operation producing adhesives for the local shoe industry soon expanded through innovation and commitment to quality. By the early 19th century the company had diversified into plastics technology, demonstrating remarkable foresight during the industry’s infancy. The post-war reconstruction era marked a pivotal moment when Koemmerling pioneered the development of PVC window systems in 1957, revolutionizing the fenestration industry with durable, energy-efficient alternatives to traditional materials. This technological leap established Koemmerling as an industry leader and drove rapid international expansion throughout the 1960s and 1970s. In 2003, Koemmerling became part of profine GmbH, creating one of the world’s largest manufacturers of PVC-U window systems.

A transformative chapter began in 2012 when Dr. Peter Mrosik acquired profine GmbH, bringing visionary leadership that propelled the company to new global heights. Dr. Mrosik, a visionary entrepreneur with a strategic mindset, accelerated the company’s international growth, expanding its global footprint and investing heavily in research and development. The company’s commitment to innovation reached new milestones in October 2024 with the strategic acquisition of EFP International B.V. (EFP), a Dutch-based company with a global footprint, specializing in the design, development, and production of aluminium profile systems for architects under the brand “EFP European Facade Products”. The acquisition remains a pivotal move that significantly expanded Koemmerling’s global product range under the brand name “EFP by Koemmerling” and strengthened the aluminium systems with facade solutions.
Under Dr. Peter Mrosik’s leadership, the company developed increasingly sophisticated profile systems with multi-chambered designs that set new industry standards for thermal efficiency and sustainability. This strategic expansion transformed Koemmerling into a global powerhouse, creating one of the world’s most comprehensive manufacturers of fenestration systems with product supply in over 60 countries. Throughout its 125+ year history, Koemmerling has maintained its German engineering heritage while continuously evolving its product portfolio to address contemporary architectural challenges, embodying a perfect synthesis of historical craftsmanship and cutting-edge innovation.
